The mountain around you
Poás and La Paz are a short drive up the mountain, and the airport is closer than most people expect. Roads here are winding, so allow a little more time than the distance suggests.
A lagoon, picnic tables and easy trails — the closest place to stretch your legs.

Before your arrival we send the exact location and the access instructions for your stay, so you know where to go and how to get in.
About 23 minutes by car. Entry to the national park is by timed ticket, so book ahead and go early — the crater is clearest in the morning, before the cloud settles in. La Paz Waterfall Gardens is around 29 minutes.
Juan Santamaría (SJO) is about 38 minutes by car — close enough for a first or last night in the country. We still recommend a car: this is mountain road, and public transport up here is limited.
Yes, free parking on the property, for one vehicle per stay. You don’t need to reserve it.
Fraijanes sits above 1,600 m, so it is cool and often misty — fresh in the evenings and much cooler than San José. Several stays have a fireplace or heating, but bring a jacket and long trousers.
You pay the full amount by card when you book, through Tilopay’s secure checkout. Your card details never reach us. You get a confirmation email as soon as the payment clears.
